here fishy fishy.

Untuna- As good as it looks.

Now, my hometown is a small town, surrounded by water. It's at the end of the highway, and I mean the end. When giving directions I tell people stay on the highway until you hit water and you've made it. Knowing that, you can probably understand why the two restaurants closest to me are called the Red Skiff and The Fish Shack. My uncle was a lobster man [lobsta if we're getting authentic] and was perpetually a nice dark shade of Italian from his year round days with the sun reflecting off the ocean. Growing up, my dad was a captain on a whale watch boat. He likes to tell stories of how they would block off the pilot house and let me sway with the ocean in my rolling activity center [ it took … [Read more...]

“Nobody's perfect. We're all just one step up from the beasts and one step down from the angels.” ― Jeannette Walls, Half Broke Horses  I've been trying to figure out how to get back here. Back to this place of sharing, of responsibility. I've been lost. I'm still lost, but I think I found a compass. It's been so long since I've been here, writing, holding myself accountable. I've said it before, have you missed me? I think when I start to veer away from what I think I should be I panic and quit all together. Well here I am. I'm holding myself accountable. I haven't been eating vegan, or even vegetarian for that matter. I've been eating crap, a lot of sugary crap. My mood, my body, my … [Read more...]

Amazeballs

DSC_0349

Oh how crazy and wonderful this life is. That's if you make a conscious decision that it is, and I have. The past few weeks have been a crazy whirlwind of amazeballs, here let us discuss. I ran my first 5k a week ago [Thursday June 28th 2012, just making a mental note]. WAHOO. I'm SO not proud of my time [36:08], but I crossed the finish line and I wasn't in a stretcher so I'd say goal accomplished. A friend from work ran it with me and was very kind and slowed her pace to stay with me. I ran the [very hilly] race in my Vibrams not having even crossed my mind that I wouldn't be running on dirt [always running in the woods], I'd be running on pavement [I never run on pavement] and might need … [Read more...]

Chickpeas and the Winner.

DSC_0099

So I'm moving next weekend. This means lot of boxes filled with things I don't have the heart to throw away, the urge to fill my empty refrigerator and eat something other than cereal, and a whole lot of stress. I don't know about your neck of the wood, but in mine it has been damn hot, which hasn't helped my to-do list get checked off any quicker . These hot days make me dream of family gatherings with grills going and afternoons naps on the porch after sun soaked days on the beach.  So I scoured the pantry. Chickpeas, that's it. Yes, my pantry is in serious disarray, it's quite pathetic, along with everything else in my apartment right now. Chickpeas were my main ingredient. Awesome, I … [Read more...]

Smooth as Fred Astaire

1-2

Breakfast has been a wicked bummer for me lately. My breakfast of years past consisted of sausage and bacon with some toast, and a couple of eggs, those days are over. I've never been a cereal kind of girl [I take to long and it always gets soggy, yuck] I'm not big on pancakes [ waffles are a totally different story]  I can only eat oatmeal so many times a week. [I'm not a big fan to begin with] So I've had to get a bit creative and find alternatives... or wait until lunch [unacceptable] Smoothies have found their delicious way into my life and because I have a smoothie every morning I thought it fitting to share some of my recipes with you. Now I make at least five smoothies a week, many … [Read more...]
